Research Drive (ENG): Explorer link

Introduction

Research Drive is not only accessible online at https://han.data.surfsara.nl. You can also set up a link to Windows Explorer (via the ownCloud Desktop App). All the data you have in your projects will then be available through Explorer. This way it is possible to use the files from, for example, Word and SPSS on your (HAN) laptop. How to set this up and what to expect is explained below.

HOW TO CREATE A LINK BETWEEN RESEARCH DRIVE AND MY EXPLORER

1. Log in to Research Drive, go to the menu and click on Settings

2. Scroll down to "General" and download and install the ownCloud Desktop app (or click on the image below)

3. After installing and launching the ownCloud app, you will see the following screen. Click on “Add account”.

4. Enter: han.data.surfsara.nl. Click "Next" in the bottom right corner.

5a. Click "Open in browser" and log in to Research Drive.

5b. Important! Then (from within the ownCloud app), click "Open in browser" for a second time and then "Allow".

6. When this process is complete (click "Complete" in the bottom right corner), the ownCloud app will sync all the data from your projects in Research Drive.

7. After synchronization, a green checkmark will appear (see image below). If not, click on the three dots on the right and select "Force sync now". Everything will then be synchronized. If you now open the Explorer you will see "ownCloud". There you'll find all your data.

8. After syncing, a green checkmark will appear (see image below). If not, click on the three dots on the right and select 'Force sync now'. Everything will be synchronized.

Now when you open the Explorer you will see "Owncloud. That's where all the data can be found.

AUTHENTICATE OWNCLOUD APP

ownCloud will ask you once a month to confirm that you are still using the ownCloud app in conjunction with Research Drive. This authentication request comes from within the app.
It is important that you click "Open in browser" twice:
- Once to log in to Research Drive (if you are not already logged in)
- Once to grant permission (click on "Allow").

Then click on "Allow".

When the green checkmark appears in the app, authentication was successful.

WEBDAV CONNECTION LOST

Our advice: if you have previously created a WebDAV link: remove it and use the ownCloud app. It is faster and more stable than the WebDav link. You can read how to set this up in the block on the right (How to create a link between Research Drive and my Explorer).

1. The WebDAV connection may be broken. The drive may still be visible, but there will be a red cross through it:

2. How do you solve this? Click on the Z-drive. You will see a login screen:

3. Note: Remove STAFF\ and enter the password you received the first time you created a WebDAV connection (not your HAN password).
4. The connection has been restored. You can upload and delete files again.
Note!
If you cut a file from Explorer on the Z-drive and place it somewhere else (outside the Z-drive), it will also be deleted from the Research Drive.
